Tarntanya/Adelaide Designer-Artist Ash Badios, has employed her unique skillset for over 25 years across multiple disciplines. These include jewellery, objects, graphic design, abstract works (painted & digital), and large-scale public art projects. Her work in the public realm incorporates nature-influenced designs with bold forms and visually surprising elements, telling significant stories of both Historical and Popular culture. Ash's evolved practice driven by materials and methodology has allowed for a vast understanding when interpreting 2D imagery into 3D.
Extensive work within the advertising and corporate sector has given rise to sensitivities in storytelling through imagery, colour and a vast understanding of typography. A background in jewellery allows for a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and techniques.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Jewellery Design (Hon) from Uni SA in 1995, her professional development began with Jewellery design exhibiting her work in selected exhibitions around SA and interstate. Following on in 1999, a mentorship with Designer/Maker Greg Healey at George Street Studios saw her work increase in scale and scope. Ash maintained studio space at the Thebarton-based studios, developing a prolific working partnership 'Rosella-Badios' with fellow Designer/Sculptor Tony Rosella. Together they have been creating public artworks of significance for over 15 years. Their work is privileged to reside upon many sovereign nations, of whom we recognise the Traditional Custodians and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. These include the lands of the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains region, the Ngarrindjeri People of the Riverland, Murraylands and Coorong regions, the Adnyamathanha of the Finders Ranges and Mirning people of the coastal region of the Great Australian Bight.
Rosella-Badios's most recent public artworks include the award-winning and Ruby award-nominated 'Guiding Light’ - Vietnamese Boat People Monument 2021 Karrawirra Parri - Adelaide Parklands, River Torrens and currently the Rod Marsh Memorial 'Spirit of Cricket - Wattle Meeting Place' situated within the grounds of world-renowned Adelaide Oval. To be opened on December 8th, 2022.
Ash's rewarding art/design practice continues to expand and evolve. Her 2D Abstract works in large format, painted and digital, create a distinct and unique visual language echoing her years of experience within both the commercial art and design worlds.
