Selected Public Art & Design Projects

  • Alongside her contemporary art practice, Ash Badios has spent more than 25 years working across public art, placemaking and environmental graphic design. Since 2012, many of these projects have been realised through Rosella Badios Collaborative Design, a long-standing partnership with artist and sculptor Tony Rosella responsible for the development and delivery of major public artworks and placemaking projects throughout South Australia.

Vietnamese Boat People Monument -'Guiding Light'

  • Adelaide Parklands, South Australia | 2018–2021

    A commemorative public artwork honouring the journey, resilience and contribution of Vietnamese refugees to South Australia. Commissioned by the Vietnamese Boat People Monument Committee and developed by artists Ash Badios and Tony Rosella.

    Materials: Granite, bronze and slate.
    Collaborators: Judith Rolevink (figurative sculpture), Tim Thompson (bronze casting), Brett Gilliam (stone sculptural detail).

Rod Marsh MBE Memorial – 'Wattle Song Meeting Place'

  • Adelaide Oval, South Australia | 2024

    A commemorative public artwork celebrating the life and legacy of Australian cricketer Rod Marsh. Developed as a place of reflection and gathering, the work draws inspiration from Australian wattle in recognition of Marsh's role in establishing the iconic "Wattle Song" victory chant, now a long-standing tradition of the Australian cricket team. Rod Marsh's bronze wicketkeeping gloves rest gently within the work, as though momentarily set aside, and have since become a pre-match ritual for Australian cricketers and visitors alike.

Wilpena Pound Visitor Centre Screens

  • Ikara–Flinders Ranges National Park, South Australia | 2012

    Developed as part of the visitor experience at Wilpena Pound, these sculptural corten steel screens draw directly from the distinctive geology and stratified landscapes of the Flinders Ranges. Interpreted from on-site observation and photographic studies, the artwork abstracts the layered rock formations, erosion patterns and visual traces embedded within the landscape, creating a contemporary expression of place. The perforated forms filter light and shadow throughout the day, reinforcing the connection between landscape, geology and visitor experience.

Bent Street Wall Mural

  • Adelaide, South Australia | 2014

    Developed as part of Adelaide City Council's East End Greening Strategy, this large-scale public artwork draws inspiration from a historic letter describing a walk along the banks of the River Torrens and the distinctive vegetation that once characterised the landscape. Drawing on kangaroo grass, wattles and eucalypt species, some now extinct from the local area, the artwork reinterprets these botanical forms at an architectural scale, contributing colour, identity and a stronger connection to place within the urban environment.
